 Rafael L. Esquer

RAFAEL LEGLU ESQUER

    Rafael Leglu Esquer was born on September 6, 1923 in Bisbee, Arizona.  He received his training in Fort Riley, where he was awarded his spurs in early September, 1944.  He arrived in Bombay early October 1944 in a troopship, flown to Myitkyina, and trucked to Camp Landis during the night.  On the morning of October 3, he and the rest of his fellow servicemen were assigned to the newly created 475th Infantry and eventually Company L. He was killed by a Japanese shell in the morning of January 24, 1945.  He was eventually laid to rest in his hometown of Bisbee, Arizona.
