 Lynn Leighton

LYNN LEIGHTON
Mount Hope, WI

T/5 Lynn Leighton served in the 527th Ordnance Company (Heavy Maintenance) (Tank)/1st Provisional Tank Group from 1943-1945 fighting down the Ledo and Burma Roads and back into China.  Like many unit mates in the 1st PTG, Lynn simultaneously performed duties as a mechanic, vehicle operator (including tanks and bulldozers) as well as trainer for Chinese Nationalist forces.  He is pictured at right at the Grant County Civil War Memorial in Lancaster, WI before departing for China by way of Oran, Algeria and Calcutta, India.  Coincidentally, his great-grandfather who died in the Civil War in 1865 is memorialized on the monument behind him.  Lynn survived the war and returned to Wisconsin where he operated a bar with his wife before passing in 1998.
