About the Archive . . .

    Col. Charles S. Davis had worked with Col. Lewis Pick on the Missouri River Project and when Pick was called on to guide the Ledo Road project, he chose Col. Davis as his executive officer. Col. Davis later commanded the Motor Transport Service delivering supplies to China over the Stilwell Road.
    Col. Davis was provided with many copies of Signal Corps. photos, especially those that feature him in various locations and with various people along the Ledo Road in the CBI Theater. The archive contains those photos. Many of the the photos contain information such as a unique Signal Corps photo ID number, photographers name, date and a description of what was photographed. Some photos contain only a number and still others nothing at all. The photos are in no particular order and there is some duplication.
    The archive contains 8x10 and 3x5 photos as well as filmstrips and individual small photos. Most photos are by the U.S. Army Signal Corps. 164th Signal Photo Company. Some photos have small typewritten notes on thin tissue paper attached to the back. The notes are sometimes captions and other times descriptions of what is in the photo, depending on the photographer. Other photos have only a number stamped or hand-written on the back.
    The last two sections of the archive contain documents and other paper memorabilia from the colonel's collection.
    The archive represents the scanned and recreated contents of a 29 lb. box full of photographs, documents and miscellaneous papers. More pages will come from the archive as there are many illustrated histories of various subjects in the photos.
