VERNON LESLIE DRAKE

  Vernon served in CBI as a member of the 493rd Squadron, 7th Bomb Group, 10th Air Force. His group was stationed in India at Pandaveswar, bombing into Burma, and Tezpur hauling gasoline over the Hump into China.

  In addition to being a pilot and aircraft commander, Vernon was an artist and painted numerous nose art paintings on B-24's. Two of his paintings survived and are in the Commemorative Air Force's collection. He is also featured in a display in The National Museum of World War II Aviation in Colorado Springs, Co.

  Vernon's son Lawrence recently published a historical fiction novel titled Panda Girl: China-Burma-India, based on his father's time in the CBI. Names were changed in the book but it is 95% true. Panda Girl is available on Amazon and in bookstores, or visit drakeIP.
